Extranets

These are private, password protected websites that allow a group of people or companies to share or manage information and resources within a group.

Extranets are invariably heavily customized so as to model some very particular business process. The business process modeling commonly implements strict company procedures which can be laid down as steps to be followed.
Information sharing is combined with content management systems so that everything can be kept up to date. Different categories of user have the ability to update information and records, whilst some users have open access to the entire extranet, others may only have access to a particular section.
